The opening ceremony of the inaugural edition of the quadrennial event had been set to open on Wednesday but was delayed by 24 hours due to heavy rain in Ulan Bator. More than 1,500 athletes from nine countries and regions are competing in 11 sports including athletics, badminton, basketball, table tennis, wrestling and e-sports. NAGOYA, Japan - This crocodile measuring 43 centimeters long was captured in a parking lot of a hospital in Nagoya's Chikusa Ward on Aug. 18 evening, police said. The reptile was found by a nurse at around 6:30 p.m. and was caught with a net by security guards of Aichi Prefectural Shiroyama Hospital, and was handed over to police.

TOKYO, Japan - Fourteen children, aged 2 to 18, stage on Aug. 28 a sit-in protest in front of the Justice Ministry in Tokyo calling for the release of their fathers who are detained by the immigration authorities for overstaying their visas. The children plan to continue their protest through Monday evening. Their fathers, from countries including Iran, Peru and Bangladesh, are being detained by the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau.
